Tobe
Tobe raised near the Mediterranean sea on the
French Riviera did not follow any formal art
studies nor held an art diploma. Tobe is more
of a globe trotter adventurer and an intuitive
Painter. Tobes work reflects his satiric
way of seeing our world, his work is a celebration
of forms and colors. His paintings are exuberant,
each of the four thousand painting is unique!
Although perfectly aware of his talent in capturing
and painting his surrounding personages during
all his life he never considerate himself as
a professional painter he collected all his
drawing and never sold any of his numerous paintings.
Today Tobes funny and unique way to see
the world by (le petit bout de la lorgnette)
as he will say is for you to see and enjoy.
His legacy is like if he painted his memoirs
instead of writing a book Please enter and see

Unlike most of the contemporary painters that
focuses on a specific theme whose surrealist
works, with their subject matter drawn from
the realm of memory and imaginative fantasy
Tobe painted more like a photographer would
paint snap shots. Although you can recognize
Tobes unusual style that often has a whimsical
or humorous quality in each of his paintings.
The themes are various and never repeated so
are the forms and color combination. Tobes
work is a a gold mine for decorators and interior
designers his extensive work gives them
enormous possibilities. As Tobe said, the world
is not Black and white, there is Bright colors
in life and the embracing of bright colors is
something that Tobe knows best.
Tobes talent in capturing his surrounding
containing images of playfully distorted human
and animal forms, twisted organic shapes, and
odd geometric constructions, was exacerbate
by his coming to the Western Hemisphere the
scale of the new world and the colors of the
tropical Caribbean and Later on some of the
paintings influenced by the pastel colors of
the art Deco district in Miami Beach and more
recently by metallic colors Gold Silver as well
as a return into bright color association that
remain in his memory like the smell of rosemary,
thyme and laurel from his native Provence, the
song of the cicadas and the test of the Pastis
at the terrace of a café facing the deep
blue Mediterranean sea.
