A LANGUAGE MORE POWERFUL THAN WORDS
From an extremely young age I had an intrinsic
response and relation to the arts. As a child I can remember looking at my surroundings
with a keen and sensitive eye. My eyes were the camera lens to the world around
me; editing scenes in front of me like a movie.
I received a Bachelor of Arts in Photography which
helped sharpen my senses to the outside world. I’ve created three-dimensional
work in clay and worked with watercolors. At present I am working with acrylic
paint on both paper and canvas.
My current series ‘A LANGUAGE MORE POWERFUL THAN WORDS” is inspired
by the mystery of inner expression. Painting allows me to unleash a sense of
individual freedom. This process is full of vitality, life force and energy
because I am able to paint dangerously without fear. There is no right or wrong
in art. I strive to be out of the box so my paintings evoke playfulness and
unique creativity. Each stroke on the canvas is a unique expression unto
itself. Initially I am inspired through music and sounds set the pace and flow
of the creation process. I then inhabit the meditative state that allows me
to be conscious and aware. I start mixing colors that speak to me while
pouring them onto the canvas. Through the paint my heart and soul speak out,
like words to a song. The energy released by this process dances through the
canvas to create the movement that witnessed by the viewer.
Through my abstract expressionism one can observe the connection between a
hidden message, organic shapes and vibrant colors on the canvas. Each piece
has an energy and movement similar to the melody of a song. There is a mood
to each piece and an eminent sense of passion that is born onto the canvas
.Each piece has its own message like a poem to a writer or the beat of a song
to a dancer. The words on the canvas help set the mood for the painting. I
move back and forth between the words and the abstract shapes and colors in
front of me. This creates an aesthetic dialogue in my mind and in turn to the
viewer. The entire experience of painting is a stream of subconscious thought.
Whatever lies beneath comes upon the canvas to the surface.
Each painting is an individual process; it evolves when numerous layers of
paint and marks come into juxtaposition. When the colors and drawings come
into balance I consider the painting complete. This is a crucial part of the
painting: It is my intention that the canvas speak to the viewer to create
a sense of wonder and mystery- in a positive way.
Panta rhea –all things flow… All
the paintings are given inspirational and positive names:
Let-go, truth, mystery, what lies beneath, spirit, intention, vibrations,
